KMF - MORE THAN METAL

KMF Group are a successful, precision sheet metal fabricator, with a mission to manufacture high quality parts through continual investment in people and machinery. But KMF is about more than metal, it’s about togetherness. We are committed to supporting charities and championing young people in North Staffordshire.

At KMF people are the core of our business, apprentices are the future, and are key to providing the next generation of engineers. We are very proud of our award-winning, world-class apprenticeship programme, and the Young Engineer of the Year initiative, which has been in place since 2012.

YEOTY COMPETITION

The Young Engineer of the Year competition puts young people in pole position to gain an insight of engineering, whilst generating interest in apprenticeship opportunities, and the bright future careers that could lie ahead of them.

YEOTY gives a new dimension on traditional STEM based learning. It gets students out of the classroom and exposes youngsters to real world businesspeople, situations and challenges.

It promotes trouble shooting, problem solving skills, teamworking and embraces technology along the way. Building confidence, encouraging healthy competitiveness and giving participants – students and sponsors – a real sense of involvement and achievement.

Each year a new “Young Engineer of the Year” is announced at a final awards ceremony where everyone involved is recognised and rewarded. Many past YEOTY participants have gone on to take up apprenticeships and start rewarding careers with KMF and sponsor organisations.

WHY WE LOVE YEOTY

The commitment, creativity, support and enthusiasm from everyone who participates in the competition, is overwhelming. We set out on a mission to challenge curious minds, inspire innovation, raise aspirations, encourage teamwork and ignite interest in engineering careers. Thousands of youngsters, scores of schools and 75 or so sponsors have attended hundreds of sessions over the duration of the competition. Many of our Young Engineers have gone on to further education in STEM subjects. Lots of them have taken up apprenticeships with sponsor businesses, 53 are building strong careers as engineers with KMF now. This is the evidence that we’re achieving our mission.

Being involved in YEOTY is a rewarding experience and one which encourages a strong community of engineers – inventors, innovators and problem solvers – for the future.

#YEOTY’S LEGACY

KMF Community is about making an impact in North Staffordshire; by helping out, giving, achieving, creating opportunities and taking part.

YEOTY’s legacy is the smiles on these young people’s faces, their determination, their creativity, their involvement and their achievements since 2012. All well worth the £1m invested so far in Young Engineers of the Year. See it for yourself in the YEOTY galleries.
